Young Laric was horribly unsuited to his new role as a noble, having no idea as to the meaning of duty, honor, and the valor his late father displayed. Better he had remained a carpenter than perform his duties as badly as he did. He stubbornly clung to his commoner's religion, Mitra the goddess of the field, and eventually became a paladin in her service (apparently Mitra has very low standards).
After the fall of Greyhawk to the treacherous Graywolves, Laric, through a great deal of luck, and the help of his more able friends, managed to save the life of Lady Sorsha Balrog, the High Commander's niece. He was granted one request by the emperor for his actions, and he asked to become Mordensian nobility, seeking to replace his lost title with another. Unfortunately, neither his religion nor his new noble title was enough to change Laric's base nature, and he soon discarded Lady Sorsha like yesterdays rubbish. A victim of his practiced charms and fake innocence, Lady Sorsha had come to care deeply for Laric, and was heartbroken.
Laric's mistreatment of the Lady Sorsha was not enought to justify stripping him of his title, but he had completly ignored the lands given him, and all his other noble duties. So, he was stripped of his land and title, and sent on his way as the commoner he was.
The so-called paladin vanished from the empire for a time, involved with petty quests, and one defensless woman after another, until he returned to spirit the Lady Sorsha away once more with his empty promises and false affection. He is currently hunted by the empire with orders to bring him to the High Commander at all costs.
